Briuselyje.

The European Tree of the Year Contest 2015

Since 2011, the Environmental Partnership Association, comprised of six foundations from Bulgaria, Czech Republic, Hungary, Poland, Romania and Slovakia, has organized this annual contest. In four years, the number of participating countries has grown from 5 to 14. Anyone is eligible to vote, but can only vote once using a personal email address. Additional Rules of Voting are available on the European Tree of the Year 2015 website where you may read about each of the 14 trees in this year's contest and cast your vote.

The Environmental Partnership Association states, "The purpose of the European Tree of the Year is to highlight the significance of old trees in the natural and cultural heritage that deserves our care and protection. Unlike other contests, the European Tree of the Year doesn't focus on beauty, size, or age but rather on the tree's story and its connection to people. We are looking for trees that have become a part of the wider community."

Voting is open through February 28. Votes in the last week (from 21 to 28 February) are secret, meaning that preliminary vote counts will not be available on the web page. The results will be published here on 5 March. The prize will be awarded during a ceremony on 22 April in Brussels.
